"R42s Return to Myrtle"
On the gloomy afternoon of March 4th, 2024 A New York City Transit "movie train", led by St. Louis Car Company R42 #4806, crosses the Myrtle Avenue Line split-off as it approaches Myrtle Avenue station on the BMT Jamaica Line in Brooklyn, New York. The train was on its way back to Coney Island shops after a trip to the Canarsie Wash.
The R42s entered service in 1969 and ran in passenger service up until February of 2020. Most were scrapped between 2007 and 2009 with the arrival of the R160 cars leaving 50 cars running mainly on the BMT Jamaica Line until the R179s were secured in service. Since then, a handful were put into work service with a few others stored for special duties.
