Sometimes the photographer is the designer too... nearly a year's worth of work is finally unveiled in Metro-North's Employee Tribute Locomotive #214. In August of 2023 I was tasked with coming up for some ideas for the design of this locomotive, and pitched a photo mosaic idea.
The mosaics feature over 700 portraits I shot of employees in February and March of 2024, as well as archival photos from former rail photographer Frank English, as well as a collection of employee submitted images. The 2000+ photos combine into two mosaics I created in Adobe Illustrator depicting the Black Rock Harbor Lighthouse, the Hudson River as viewed from the Bear Mountain Bridge, the station clock tower at White Plains, and the New York City skyline.
