Remarks & Notes
Southbound SPV. Naugatuck Railroad no. 1001 is seen on the south end of a Railroad Museum of New England excursion train crossing the Thomaston Dam. The car is one of 31 SPV-2000 cars built by Budd from 1978-1981 as a successor to their widely popular RDC. The cars quickly developed reliability issues, and the "Special Purpose Vehicles" became widely known as "Seldom-Powered Vehicles." Many were eventually de-powered and used as conventional coaches.
