Pulling hard leaving Brunswick Yard after making it's drop off and pick up is Rocky Mount, NC to Cumberland, MD manifest Q416 and it five engine consist rolling through the Weverton interlocking. Weverton was once a small industrial village served by both the B&O Railroad and C&O Canal but never fully flourished. The B&O Washington County Branch connected behind the photog. The line served Hagerstown, MD some 20 miles northwest and was pulled up by Chessie when the more favorable Western Maryland line was the line of choice. Until recently, talk of making the abandoned line a rail trail came to a crushing halt as residents spoke against the line and even challenged the MD Dept of Natural Resources as to who actually owns the RoW.
