On a Monday morning run, from Montpelier Junction, Vermont, #29 a super, fresh red Alco S-1 is about to continue along North Main Street in Barre. Train had stopped to flag a road crossing at Myles Coal Co. The brakeman is about to climb on the alco's steps and ride to the next unprotected crossing. Like many Vermonter’s in the 70’s he and some of his crewmembers may own a small working dairy farm nearby which helps with the pocketbook. The Photographer added this comment. This is another shot from the Northern New England clean-up trip in August 1978 on the southern edge of Vermont’s Northern Kingdom.
