Carfloat service between Frisco's (former Alabama, Tennessee and Northern) yard and a tank farm across the Mobile River on Blakeley Island started in the 1930s and lasted into the BNSF era. This photo was made soon after Frisco disappeared into BN in 1980. SW1 10 has an interesting history. Built for Great Northern in 1941, it served on the Walla Walla Valley after the BN merger before being stored in 1974. Precision National bought the unit in 1978, which they rebuilt and sold to SLSF in 1979. Not long after this photo was made the unit got a coat of Cascade Green and was renumbered to 70.
Photos taken in the Deep South--primarily Alabama and Georgia--from the 1970s to the early 2000s. Featured railroads include the ICG, the West Point Route, SCL, Southern, Frisco, and even KCS.
