Sweet Home Antonito. Lately, I've been on quite a number of charters, during which night photo sessions were planned. Unfortunately, on most of them, the night sessions ended up being canceled due to time constraints and weather issues. Knowing this might happen (and ultimately did) on the flanger charter, I squirreled away a couple of Nikon strobes in one of my bags. After our charter returned to Antonito on Saturday night, I had dinner in my hotel room and then headed back over the yard to do my own night shoot. Unfortunately, I didn't have any actors or props, but I was able to capture our "drift buster", the 487, at rest looking like she'd just returned from a fight with the snow up in the high country. Not bad for a solo night shoot that took all of 15 minutes.
The Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad and the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad are all that remains of the legendary Denver & Rio Grande Western narrow gauge system. Here you'll find some of my favorites from these two beautiful railways.
