To me railroad photography has always revolved around recreating scenes that were once commonplace. Although the fact that those opportunities to recreate in these modern days of railroading are fleeting, I still find myself drawn to the last and continuing "Alamos" of steam to perhaps pay homage to my family and other individuals who had worked hard to make America an industrial power through the use of the iron horse.
This picture, in my opinion, serves as no exception to this. Although it is HIGHLY unlikely that a Baldwin built light decapod from Colorado stomped on these grounds regularly, the steam freight held by the Strasburg Rail Road on the rather cool April 5th, 2017 day made me realize how lucky we are to have these events still occurring almost 60 years after the fires were dropped on the Class Is.
For my 50th photo on Railpictures.net: The brakeman of a 5 car steam freight hangs off the last car, as SRC #90 chugs along underneath the former PRR catenary paying homage to a tradition long past, but still alive in the hearts of many.
Taking a look at the same train and scene as captured by different photographers. The best way to view will be to sort by photo date so the photos are grouped together.
