Another railway line of Chile, which was partly destroyed by the heavy floods in august 2015, was the "Tocopilla" of the Sociedad Quimica y Minera de Chile from Tocopilla to Maria Elena (1067 mm gauge or 3 ft 6 in). The railway line was shut down in november 2015 and road traffic took over. In april 2012, General Electric boxcabs # 601 and # 607, built in Schenectady, New York in 1927/1928, are pulling an empty nitrate train up the 4.0 % grade in the steep slope above the town of Tocopilla towards the Reverso switchback station.
