The WOW Trail is the subject of the 2019 debate over whether or not to extend the trail from Laconia to Weirs Beach, NH, removing the rail between those locations on the Plymouth & Lincoln and severing a potential lifeline for the Hobo and Winnipesaukee tourist operations and any future freight ops north of Laconia. As the plan to pursue the trail was stifled by the fact that the tourist operations were generating 3 times the amount of revenue that was projected by the trail, New Hampshire DOT has allocated roughly $1M for a tie and surfacing project. On April 29, the Plymouth & Lincoln GP7 #302 is handling the six ties cars along the Winnisquam Lake and along the WOW trail as it approaches Laconia.
