"Glass Out Cube at Nassau"
Long Island Rail Road's "LaserTrain" heads east past Nassau Tower on the Long Island Rail Road Main Line. LIRR's LaserTrains consist of two MP15ACs sandwiching a retired Budd M3 pair equipped with technology installed by Laser Precision Solutions. They are tasked with vaporizing leaf residue off of the rails throughout the system. During the fall season, leaves fall onto the tracks which cause slip slide conditions when ran over by trains. Many railroads utilize rail washers for this issue but the LIRR has recently turned to this technology for the task.
On July 11th, 2020 at 10:01hrs, Nassau Tower was closed and control shifted to LIRR's Jamaica Center Control while this portion of the line was shut down to support Third Track construction projects. This is the second tower outside of the Jamaica area to be shifted. Nassau Tower sits on the right of way of the new Main Line Third Track, which will span from Floral Park to Hicksville. Therefore it must be demolished along with the Mineola station platform located just behind the camera. Old photos of the tower were posted up on several of the poles in the area in an attempt to save the tower by having it relocated. Unfortunately, those efforts were unsuccessful.
A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)
