The old U.S. Highway 95 truss bridge now carries only footprints in the snow, replaced years ago by a new, modern bridge just to the west, conveying the road over the BNSF’s busy former Northern Pacific/BN main line called “the funnel” between Spokane and Sandpoint. On February 3, 2022, BNSF’s Sandpoint local hustles eastbound between Algoma and Cocolalla, Idaho, and is about to duck under the old bridge, led by some Cascade green heritage in the form of BNSF EMD SD40-2 No. 1979.
