It’s a gray wintery day as an empty coal train off the MKT heads east off the former Frisco main line after skirting MKT’s Glen Park Yard, and is now approaching the Burlington Northern crossing of Santa Fe just east of Santa Fe Junction in Kansas City, Missouri, on December 8, 1985. Since leaving the power plant in Texas, the train has been pulled Katy EMD GP39-2 No. 379 and GP40 No. 244, leading a trio of Burlington Northern GE C30-7s for power and is headed for BN’s Murray Yard. It is passing under Interstate 35 and curving by the the old Imperial Brewery complex, a portion of which is seen on the far right. The abandoned remains of the 121-year-old structure were demolished at the end of 2023.
