Do the eyes have it?
 
My eyes are not as good as they used t be, so I'll take your opinions on this --

I think the photo might me a little undersharpened, but what struck me when I viewed the photo is the pole in the front seems disproportionately sharp in comparison to the remainder of the photo.

I think it's overexposed, and washing out the details. Lower the levels, add some contrast and that would go a long way toward it looking better. Maybe some additional selective sharpening around the number boards. Selective contrast adjustment on the numberboards and short hood would go a long way.

I take it that's an ex-southern GP38?

Yes, former SOU GP38AC, same number. I took your advice. We'll see if it gets on. No big deal if not. I would normal let the train start into the next curve to get a side view of the lead loco, but the sun angle made that a no-go that day.
