For the first one a bit of cropping might do the trick, I also tweaked the colors and exposure a little in an attempt to bring out the detail in the snow on the ground.

I gave it a shot

Two things that stand out as being problematic, the sky is a little too bland and the image has a fair amount of noise in it.I thought I liked the color version but now I'm not so sure :-)

I agree with ATSF666 the front loco is soft, it looks as if the camera nailed focus on the third unit unfortunately.
