Oh, laptop screens - ugh. Well, not all, but many are JUNK. For instance, the cheap Lenovo laptop I have for the random portable computer needs. Horrible screen - heck it only covers 58% of the sRGB...

Yes, I do have an update. After some debate, I opted for a crop similar to what Doug suggested. The photo was accepted, I'm happy to announce!

Thanks again to all of you for the generous, helpful...

Yes, I do have one frame after, just before the shadow. Here it is:

9911

Would this have a better chance? Would you guys change the crop at all, or leave as is on this shot?

Thanks all!...

Thanks guys - good info. I wish the screeners would add a note with a bit more detail. I suspect they reserve that for more 'spectacular' photos.

Trimming the bottom left will move the subject...

Mistake or Correction? I'm Perplexed!

Yesterday, this photo was rejected for awkward framing, specifically not conforming to the Rule of Thirds. Problem is, the subject does conform to the Rule of Thirds. Did the screener mistakenly...

All: Thank you for the feedback. Very helpful.

Afer a bit of work, I'd like to run a new version past you, to see if this is more what everyone had in mind? Think the screeners would be happier...

An Iowa Landscape - Too Loose

Perhaps the screener doesn’t care for the location. Thought about letting the engines get farther right, but the trees would distract from the locomotives. Maybe I need to contact the landowner and...

Kevin, you might look into Phase One’s software called “Capture One.” It’s actually a bit more powerful than Lightroom, and a perpetual license can still be had. I’ve considered switching myself, as...

Backlit going away shots? Hmmm, now that you mentioned it, I’ve been wanting to add this photo, but, technically, it’s “against the recommendations.” Also, some “clutter” hiding the lead...

Inconsistency, as well as holding out on further gripes, gets me. On more than one occasion, I've had photos rejected for one thing only to be rejected for another, later. If the screener(s) would...

In my short time here, I've found that RP (generally) doesn't like to see a significant population of pixels at the left half of the histogram, nor a significant portion which is clipped (black)....

All,

Here's the final result I came up with after a bit of final tweaking of the crop and then resize (for RP constraints). As said previously, this photo (locomotives, more specifically) were...

Thanks. Yep, I’m working off the original. Just wasn’t sure whether you were referring to the saturation level of my original submission to RP or the sample photo I added to post #8.

Joe,

Just to clarify, are you suggesting less saturated yellows on the original or the last updated photo I sent?

Not just you who noticed - I did as well. Although the locomotives are slightly soft, they still are pretty sharp in the original. Unfortunately, that's about the best I could get with the resize....

Kevin,

After trying it, 5x3 does seem a fairly nice choice. It's a bit of a mid point between a standard and a panoramic frame, which would seem to fit well.

Taking the 14x9 crop to 5x3, I...

Kevin,

Actually, I do use a color calibrated display, tuned with a Spyder4Pro. My eyes are/were the problem here, me thinks. :)

As far as editing, I use LR/ACR, then fine tune in Photoshop,...

Bob, thanks for the suggestions.

In addition to crop, I see you've also gone quite a bit warmer. Perhaps it could use another 150-200 kelvin. My intent there was to keep it in line with the scene...

Too Much Saturation!

New rejection reason for me: too much saturation! Fair enough! For what it's worth, this was right after a good rain, so the scene actually was quite vibrant. In fact, I used a bit less saturation...

As others have said, resubmitting that photo to RP probably isn't a good idea. I would still like to see the...
