I've noticed myself, and in looking through pictures, that the BNSF shows a marked preference for running its B23-7s paired up with GP30us. Why? They rarely seem to pair them up with either other...

I was all in the mood to go out and take some photographs this weekend, but Southern California is rained out. Grr. Count me frustrated.

I may even just head over to the tracks and WATCH for a...

Hmm, well. I saved it and tried some Photoshopping. One can get a bit more detail with careful levels/contrast and filters, especially stopping the nose being quite such a white blob and showing a...

There's always some subjectivity in acceptance, of course, and absolute consistency is impossible, especially with multiple screeners.

I do think that often the real rejection reason is a gut 'I...

I do think the first one is still tilted a touch. The poster above is right, I think. Look at the telegraph poles, for example; they're not vertical, and they all seem to tilt about the same...

A place I'm really keen on is the Commerce, CA Metrolink platform. It's just up the line from the big BNSF Hobart Yard, and it's right opposite their Commerce Mechanical Facility, where lots of BNSF...

Which leaves the question:

How much digital manipulation of photos is acceptable here? Should it actually be specified somewhere?

Personally, I think a line is crossed when things are actually...

I think cropping isn't really the issue. I think it's the shadows falling across the locomotive that is getting this one rejected. I'm not sure if you can do anything about this one.

I have had a few pictures rejected for "bad motive". What does this mean, exactly? It's not really all that helpful.

My guess is that it means 'this isn't the kind of thing we're looking for...
