Most likely had a "hot box" on the engine. An engine with a traction motor problem can be moved to the home shops for repairs. Though the engine cannot be moved if it has a bad axle bearings...Cool catch Brian

More than likely the pinion seized from lack of oil (this engine does not use crater),
the usual repair is remove the axle and the traction motor and replace them with an
idler wheel only so that it can go to the shop. This event occurrs more than the Co.
would care to experience. Note that the wheel tread still shines, it appears that
Hulcher or whoever the contractor is, with the CSX shop forces have
already replaced the idler wheel. In older times they would send a machinest
out in an over the road truck and he would cut the pinion out with a cutting
torch, very dangerous procedure.
