Think about how many people die doing this!

An astonishing picture. I'm amazed by the symmetry of the roof passngers. Looks like they've been put there by a loading machine, in the same way that a modern coal hopper's load looks manicured when freshly loaded.

Do all these people on the roofs of the wagons, pay ticket?
|
Not many die and for those who are unfortunate, do Indian Railways care?

Do any of these people have cameras? Gosh, I hope not....because NJ Transit would flip out for security reasons. :)

Answering some of the above comments, no, those travelling on the roof do not pay ticket. I guess from Indian Railways' viewpoint, this absolves them of responsibility if somebody should fall off, though I have no knowledge how often this happens. Another consideration might be how on earth they would enforce payment if it was required - I can't imagine a ticket inspector walking along that roof! Like Bob, I was struck by the symmetry of the passengers, but I think this may simply be the result of every available "safe" place being taken.
