Rare photo--there wasn't a lot of years that GP35's were lead-qualified on D&RGW. In the early 70's (1972? due to FRA requirements) they were demoted to B-unit status, and relegated to trailing unit duty.

3048 is a unique D&RGW GP35. In this shot, it has what looks like a GP9 plow. It was later wrecked at Swan, Colorado in 1970 and was the only Grande GP35 to receive the large bill board lettering of the stacked Rio Grande.
