Maybe just a little influence from the D&RGW paint scheme.
Going to be interesting to see Rio Grande in Pennsylvania! A bit over the top but kudos to the railroad for putting this much work into a paint job.
Wow, I thought it was the UP 1989 at first! Seems a little chaotic on that little engine..
Great design!
LOOKS as if it SHOULD be SOMEBODY's "Heritage Unit." Will look REALLY SHARP when completed.
Jeez, are all the shortlines around the Great Lakes going DRGW? First the Wheeling & Lake Erie, and now the Pennsylvania Northeastern?
I can only think of one other railroad that would be as good or maybe better to copy than the D&RGW and that would be the AT&SF warbonnets.
Sorry but this is as fugly as that warbonnet disaster the INRD tried.
Hopefully this means this cool engine has a lot of years of working in it's future. The same goes for that old curved-cab C32-8/C39-8? GE bhind it. I hope that not all of those will go to scrap.
However, the cabin with black strips over yellow is looking fantastic. But, the silver colour on wheel-sets looks quite odd.
All those strips must have driven the painter crazy. Maybe that's why it isn't finished.
But isn't it also creative experimentation? Some will work, some won't but unless the artists are allowed to create, the world is left with boring.
Thanks for posting Dale. RCTHS 1628

I hope they have lots of masking tape if they plan to use that scheme on all of their locomotives...

I dont live in that part of Pa & will probably never see any of these loco's, but I learned many years ago that "copying is the the greatest form of flattery"
Clearly few viewers on this site are familiar with Texas & Pacific's "Swamp Holly Orange" scheme delivered on its GP7s and GP9s. This scheme clearly mashes that together with the UP's DRGW heritage scheme. . . to drastically busy and graphically horrid effect! Sometimes, simple really is best.
