Why was this the last revenue train? Did they stop using trains or did they close the mine or what?

Dave D.: The LTV Steel Corp. went kaput end of 2000 (I used to work for them). Many of the assets were bought by others. Evidently no one needed Erie Mining.

Correct, the mine and pellet plant were shut down in early 2001 as part of LTV's demise with no buyers. The pellet plant has been scrapped and parts sold off while the crusher is owned by a company who wants to mine copper and nickle in the area. Cleveland Cliffs owns the railroad and dock but both are mothballed currently.
