What happened to the trains of the 70s, where'd they go?

Every day I drive to work I pass by this area, a few hundred feet out of the right-hand side of the frame; the tracks, platform and station behind it (included the bridge carrying Peachtree Road) are basically the same, while almost everything else is different - or in the case of most of the foreground trees, gone. Certainly Amtrak's Southern Crescent is different from its historical namesake.
