Minor point of clarification: Guilford purchased Maine Central in 1981, and Maine Central purchased those U23Bs from D&H at least a year or two before Guilford purchased D&H (the D&H purchase was in '84). So it was a transaction between two separate and unconnected railroads, rather than an in-house shuffle of assets. It is, of course, a bit confusing because Guilford did indeed transfer a lot of D&H assets to MEC and B&M after they formally purchased D&H.
