The eastbound "Sandman" had just left Gore, VA and was crossing U.S. Route 50 with RS-3 No. 527, S-6 No. 80 and 12 loads of sand. RS-3 No. 527 was purchased from Amtrak for conversion to a slug. ... (more)
Recently acquired from the CV, 3609 is stored on a spur in Gore. One of the (at the time) active W&W RS11s can be seen at right.
Strangely, this appears to be the first shot of W&W #78 on RP. Sister S6 #80 seemed to have more photo ops, appearing in four shots on this site.
