unlevel horizon where no horizon is visable
This photo was rejected for unlevel horizon;however, there is no visible horizon. A standard front 3/4 view.
http://www.railpictures.net/viewreject.php?id=94668.
I appealled the rejection yesterday lunch time but never had a reply.
It was rejected twice. I then leveled the horizon by squaring up the tower on the right-hand side, both vertical faces of the "do not cross the line" sign and by the the electrical conduit running down the station canopy support.
If all those 4 items are vertical then the horizon (unseen) is level, right? Or am I missing something.

It looks like the locomotive is going downgrade when its really not. Rotate it about 1 degree counter clock wise.

There are two poles in the background which lean to the right a tad.

I'm kinda surprised it wasn't rejected for foreground clutter with that sign at the front of the unit...

Ween, I think the sign adds to the charm of the photo there.

You're probably right, but charm's in the eye of the beholder. I've yet to get one of my charming backlit or bad motive shots accepted!!!

I sometimes wonder what the criteria is.
I submitted a shot of the "Maple Leaf Limited", rejected for bad cropping, so re-crop touch-up, etc, etc, then it gets rejected as being too common. Why they couldn't say that in the first place?
The wildest one was a rejection of a West German electric near Berlin being rejected because it was too similar to a Soviet built diesel at the same station.
Imagine rejecting a GG-1 because they had a SD75 taken at the same spot !!!
Antway I guerss I will crank the photo over 1 degree and see what happens. I figure the loco must have sat there from about 1:30 pm when I shot it until 4:16 when it was due to depart.

Well here is it, lets see what happens. I squared it using the hand rails on the cab side.

Foreground clutter
Well you were right, now its rejected for something that was completely obvious from the start.
Why they couldn't say that at the start is completely beyond me?

I sometimes wonder that also. They seem to reject photos for the fixable problems first, then you correct the problem, resubmit it, and they reject it for sometime that you can't fix, like similar photo. It annoys me!

What is the criteria for a "similar photo" anyway? Is it for similar subjects, similar location, etc. ? I've seen a few photos on the site that have been taken from the same location, but of different subjects though. Does this count?
