Default Underexposed?

Any advice? These are my last 2 rejections! Color problems on photo 2?

Number two looks to me like it has a bit of a reddish cast, but I'd wait to see what others say . . .

1 needs the shadows lighten a touch.
2 The yellow or golden light is washed out, you need to put some color back in.

The first is too dark, looks like you also cut off some of the engine as well. The second one needs some red, its pretty bland.
