I love galleries a bunch, so post your best transit/commuter photos.... (The first one is of an engine that used to run dinkys oon the BN Chicago Sub and I started this gallery, so it counts.)

No luck yet with transit, or rather, haven't tried hard enough! Lots of commuter; I like shooting predictable trains. But rather than dump them all, I will show two special ones, the first train rides for my two kids.

I personally have had a problem with those trying to tell us to turn railroad photography into an "art form." It's fine for them to do so, I welcome it in fact, but what I do have a problem with is that the practitioners of the more "arty" shots, I have found, tend to look down their nose's at others who are shooting more "mundane" shots.
Railroad photography is what you make of it, but one way is not "better" than another, IMHO. Unless you have a pole right thought the nose of the engine! -SG

I actually drove all the way from Grand Rapids to Joliet JUST to take that photo (380 mile round trip!). My goal was to get the shot I had previously scoped out and submit it to DINA 2010, but I just never got around to it. Too lazy, I guess.

I'm not a fan of light rail and transit systems and there aren't any commuter lines around me, so I am surprised to have a shot that fits in this category.

Nice try. First, you can see the actual headlight, part of the train, not simply the light from the headlight. Second, included in the image is the triple track, mainly a result of the commuter operation. Third, this photo was largely made possible by the commuter operation and it's evening rush with a bunch of trains to get the shot right on...

This signal governs MARC commuter operations on the Brunswick line ... A MARC train was undoubtedly in the vicinity ... If a weekend shot - I don't remember! - then a MARC train was yarded within 20 miles.

Not necessarily. However, in the case of the BNSF Transcon in IL, the triple track begins at Aurora. Therefore, it can be argued that in this case the triple track is a sign of the commuter operation. I'm not saying that most viewers here would or should immediately make that connection, but it's there. Now for a parting quote, "Arguing on the internet is like running in the Special Olympics.
