Poor lighting?
Hi, I am new to the forums, I hope this is the correct place to put this post. If not, please tell me where to put it, thanks and hello. I have been submitting photos for a year now, and only 2 have been accepted, and I think they are wrong about this one. So can you tell me?
Does this photo really have poor lighting?

It looks like the sun was being filtered by some clouds, which can mess up the lighting on a photo. The fence is also a bit distracting. I wouldn't worry about this one because you can catch BNSF Dash 9's any day.

but the thing is that those arent clouds, it was a crystal blue day today.

Yes it does, as well as a few other things against it (Unlevel, foreground clutter, BNSF common power wedgie...like we really need more of those).

That's the dullest crystal blue day I've ever seen.

I'd be surprised if this one was rejected only for poor lighting. The horizion is unlevel to the left by a hair and there's some foreground clutter on the trucks of the lead engine. As you get to the second and third units, there appears to be a loss of sharpness. This is not a shot I would get all upset over not getting into the database.

You also write in the caption about a person crossing the tracks..... yet we don't actually see the person.

Just go to my last shot uploaded --
http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=128039
and then you can click on Signature Digitale Photography to see my other shots.
Wedgie shots of "common power" are fine if they're technically accurate shots.

Well I think Caleb hit the hail and the head. The shot is dull.
That is considered a roster shot of common power and the picture has to almost be perfect before being accepted.

Yeah, the lighting is a tad on the poor side on this one, but the bigger concern would be the composition: the chain link fence (as mentioned previously) is a big distraction (even though you can see through it).
Don't sweat the rejection though, that seems to be a pretty busy place that sees lots of traffic so keep trying.
BTW, my photos can be found by following the link below...

I think the fence kills the shot. Or, maybe there are too many snow shots now, similar to common-angle, cloudy day pictures.
