How can you hijack, derail, or cause other damage with a camera? To cause damage you have to pretty much be on the tracks with tools or whatever. From what I've been seeing what goes on overseas, what's to keep a guy (usually of Arab descent ) from filling a car with explosives, going to a downtown gas station and setting it off. That's more their style.

We're becoming way too much paranoid as a society and should not make everything look suspicious, especially people with cameras on public property.

Besides railfans are a watchful eye in these regards and could be of service when spotting something that looks like someone may try to cause harm and I highly doubt they'd have a camera in their hands.
