Default Soft & Too Loose...Suggestions?

Yesterday, I had this photo rejected for being "too soft" and "too loose." Seems fairly sharp to me, but I guess maybe a tiny bit soft? Maybe the screeners are seeing something else and that's the closest reason?

Also, any ideas on the "too loose" reasoning? The nose of the train is past 2/3, as is the end of the train. Do they want the detector closer to the edge, since it's blocking a bit of the train?

Here's a possible crop that, perhaps, would be more in line with what the screeners want? Ideas? Or is this one better kept off RP?

And one other photo that I'm thinking about submitting. Anything here that might warrant a rejection?

Thanks.

I think you're right on with your assessment. Tighten it up overall, especially on the left side. And then up the sharpness, personally I find I always need to sharpen more for RP than what looks sharp to me, and it's just become part of my process of editing.

The CN shot looks solid to me, though maybe leaning a hair to the left? Hard to tell for sure without much to reference as a vertical.

Thanks, Joseph. I'll probably wait a few months and try to resubmit the corrected version, with a bit more sharpening. With it cropped in a bit, the details will have more resolution, too, (small RP size limit) so hopefully that will help with perceived sharpness, as well.

You were right, I think - 0.2° CW seems to have taken care of it. I also removed the two powerlines.

Thanks again for the suggestions.

Personally, I'm bothered by that white box on the left, it draws my attention too much. Do you have a chance at a re-shoot of the scene, but from further back?

Not likely. This heritage unit would have to do several things. Come back through. Come back through leading. Come back through during a good time of day. Be traveling the correct direction. Annnd, happen to be when I’m not at work or busy

But, that doesn’t mean it won’t happen, at some point.

Heh, my main difficulties in repeating a shot is the weather and returning to a remote location, you across the pond have so many more...

In this case, a tighter cropping suggested by others might do the trick, or maybe you could selectively darken that box a bit (I did something similar here, stated so in the comments for screeners, and it was accepted).
