The whole thing has started to feel like high school revisited for me, and I don't mean that in a good way...
Back in the '60s (that would be the 1960s, not the 1860s), I rarely, if ever, saw another railfan if I were out shooting train photographs (they weren't "images" then---but a lot of things have changed). While I don't necessarily avoid other railfans on those occasions when I go trackside with my camera, neither am I looking to hook up with new friends. When you throw in guys like poor old Dan Valentine, it makes the entire hobby rather creepy.

This has never been about "competition," or any of that. Sure, overinflated egos have been around for a long time, but nothing of the sort I see these days. If someone had 5000 images posted on Rail Pictures, what purpose would it serve? It wouldn't be worth a tinker's damn!

The problem, as I see it, is this: both "sides" of this drama assign far more importance to this subject than it's worth. Dan Valentine and his small band of "followers" are at one extreme---but then I read all the snot-slingin' and heavy breath over guys who can't seem to get their favorite shot of the day posted on RP.net----and it gets played out in soap opera fashion on this forum. Either way, WHO CARES?

Get out and enjoy your life. Get laid, get that cherry '68 Camaro that Charles suggested, find some real purpose in your life.

Geeze, guys.....it's only a hobby.

I sent that freak an...erm..colourful PM a month back, his response? "Is that the best you got??? Go back to mommys nipple." As you can see for a supposed 50 y/o, thats a generous example of his intelligence...! It's funny, he does call out artsy stuff, but hates wedgies, well? What the hell do you want Valentine...? It's funny to me how he never really says what he WANTS in a photo he just friggin complains all the time..? What a lameass.

How about a back-lit wedgie shot of a cherry '68 Camaro with a nipple for a hood ornament? Yea....that would make everybody happy!

I think it is funny honestly. He has a small following of people who did not get their "first great shot" on RP, so the screeners are wrong and they are now following him.

"Taylor I. Veldman What I don't get....Maybe you like to point out stuff like this, you have an eye for detail, who can complain about that? Yet, these RP minions are trackside almost 24/7 trying to impress other people, yeah, that' some kind of life they have."
Tuesday at 8:09pm

But here they are sitting by the computer 24/7 critiquing and posting all the RP pictures that "they feel" are full of flaws. So who are you saying has no life?

This I though was really funny and so not true after you read some of his post on his page. "This group is not about "me". Try to make it about me, and you are gone."

For someone who is almost 50 y/o, it is pretty sad he sits on here name calling people and so forth instead of being a man and not letting it bother him. Most people do this for fun, and not trying to prove their self over another.

Me too, Chuck. Me too. Hell, people say "I saw your photos on railpictures.net!" and then I sell them the photos, and well, you've seen my girlfriend!
Note: All of this can be taken seriously if you wish. It's all true.

"You unlock this door with the key of imagination. Beyond it is another dimension - a dimension of sound, a dimension of sight, a dimension of mind. You're moving into a land of both shadow and substance, of things and ideas. You've just crossed over the 49th Parallel."

Actually, Matt - I'm going to bet you would be selling pictures and spending time with your pretty girlfriend even without knowing the difference between an ES44AC and an AC4400CW.

The 1968 Camaro didn't have a hood ornament, but I guess with a hot-glue gun, you could improvise something.

BTW: Hi Daniel, I really like your Facebook page and am a little bummed you haven't bagged on any of my images.

Please keep it up.

You add yet another facet to the already bleak world of hardcore railfaning.

So Joe, are you trying to prove that you are crazy, or that you are not crazy because you only like "some things EMD?"

Lets use logic shall we?

All crazy people like all things EMD.

Joe is a person.

Joe only likes somethings EMD.

Since Joe is always a person who only likes some things EMD, and since all crazy people always like all things EMD;

Therefore, Joe is sometimes crazy, and is a Unicorn.

QED

Or maybe I was just whoring for views!

Which would, in fact, be crazy.

Exclamation Danny Boy's List

Nah, come clean......

Your trying to make Danny Boy's list aren't you.

Gave him some suggested fodder to get started on didn't ya - wink, wink.

You, crazy?

I think not.

But you may still be a Unicorn, which is most certainly better than being a rat - I would surmise.

He's mentioned me a few times on there, calling me ''Mumbo-Dumbo'' the whole time...yawn, like no one has ever made a crack about my last name.. I would expect someone who is old enough to be my father to be a bit more mature, but then again who cares? However I will say he is undeniable proof that there are some really weird people in this hobby.....

DV has been calling out my shots since the beginning, and I've never cared. I've been banned from his little group twice because I got real with him. Seems he can't handle "the truth."
