Default Fallen photographer- Steve Schmollinger has passed

I read about it on the Trains News Wire. Steve has an extensive library here that is well worth viewing.

I have his Tehachapi book and it’s a fine read and inspired this photo.

I saw this on another site as well and recognized the name instantly. Fifth most prolific RP contributor at over 13 million views and nearly 5,000 images. The man had one heck of a collection, which I hope will be looked after.

High greens and tailwinds forever, Steve.

Yes, indeed!

Coincidentally, I was looking through some of his older images just a few days ago. Well worth a further look!

Very sad to read/learn of this.

It hasn't been a good year. Mike Condren passed away from Covid as well. He was a prolific KCS/Frisco photographer. And we lost J. David Ingles, another prolific photographer since the early '60's with one of the biggest slide collections in the nation. Sad.....

I saw that on other sites. I've known Lee for more than a dozen years and chatted with him many times while shooting down at the Valley Railroad in Essex, CT. Super nice guy. From what I understand his recent illness was pretty sudden (not COVID-related). I know he was a big EBT fan and probably pretty excited about the future down there. So sad that he will not be there to see steam run again there. Rest in Peace, Lee.

Jonathan Guy, a well known railfan from Chattanooga who posted prolifically here in the site's early days, also passed away last month. Sad to see so many heavy hitters leave us recently.
