Foreground Clutter; thru-truss bridge exception?

I was really surprised when this came back rejected for "Foreground Clutter." I think a railroad bridge should be an exception to the "rule." Is it being rejected because the shadows cast by the bridge can also be seen?

I sent the following appeal, but apparently it doesn't hold water.

Plenty of thru-truss bridge photos are accepted. Why is my photo any different? Here are recent examples:

The Cab is covered up by part of the bridge, Its a hard shot to get in.

I like the shot not so much because of the train, but because the boat in the shot makes the photo. I think in your appeal you should have emphasized that (i.e. why your shot deserves to be accepted) instead of comparing to other people's shots. For future considerations, that attitude tends to hold a little more water...

I received the same kind of rejection and the cab was past the bridge. I don't think they want those type of photos.

Your #1 & #4 comparisons aren't even in the same ball bark.

Speaking from having had the same problem, I think if you would have let the loco move ahead to the last ?hand rail upright? in that hole in the span you would have been really close. But, where would this have placed the boat?

I think the concensus on truss bridge shots like this is that RP likes to have the profile of the nose better shown. As-is, that diagonal cuts right through the middle of your chop nose. A+ for effort though. It's a nice photo.

Not even the same sport. One is a night time streak shot, for cring out loud! Your photo should stand on it's own merit. It either deserves to be in the database or it doesn't. Ask what you can do to work on it or what maybe th screeners would rather see. Not whine about shots already in.

FWIW, my opinion is that most truss bridge shots workbest from a distance and more or less a straight on angle such as this one from one of my favorite RP photogs --

Five year old shot. Looking at it now, not sure it would be accepted now. But it ws rejected for "Foreground clutter." Appealed on the basis, "that's not foreground clutter, that's a railroad bridge."

Ok, you're right that some of my comparison shots are not in the same league. I selected the comparisons for "recentness" of the photos and not on the basis of exactly how similar the angles, lighting, etc. were.

But, moving on from that avenue of argument...

Yes, the shot needs to stand on its own. Good point.

Yes, the boat is what makes the shot. I have other shots of the same train where the cab is not obscured, but the boat isn't there.

Other shots of this bridge have been accepted (both sharper angles and more perpendicular angles), but shooting this scene from most any other vantage point relative to the boat would not have caught the boat's spray tail.

I'll think about it some more....

The location looks good. You will have to catch the nosesticking out of the bridge and not obscured if you want that angle. Gotta think you know someone witha boat. Have 'em help you re shoot.......... As far as RP, I think this one is DOA

I think I have 4 truss bridge shots on the site, and with all of them I try to show the front of the nose and the cab, and if needed, have the portion between the two obscured.

I think your bridge shot should have made it based on sharpeness and your other post processing. I boat really makes it. The accepted photos you linked to I didn't even look at since it doesn't matter what is in the database already.
