Default What Do They Mean?

I don't understand the 3rd part of why it was rejected...

Seems mostly self explanatory to me. I don't think it can be put any more simply than that. They just don't like it.

Besides the noise, the things that bug me are:
1: Baggage cart blocking train
2:Nasty round lens flare (I prefer a nice star, which I've found good lenses and cameras generally give)
3: A bit blurry.
4: I think the motive's fine!

Hi Steven
The ideas there, but there are a few things i dislike
1. The baggage car i think takes the focus away from the train
2. That light in the centre of the frame is also very distracting
3. Its a bit blurry
I do like the moon in the background though, i think having motion blur on the people is ok as long as the rest of the image is unobstructed and sharp.

Regards Lee

Are you OK with them calling it blurry and saying it's too noisy/grainy?

Joe

Actually, that has more to do with the number of blades and aperture setting than whether it's a good camera or lens.

Joe
Yes, I know it's grainy... I set the ISO too high, and RIGHT after I shot this, the train departed.

Cool

It's an interesting picture, but I have to agree with the screener that it just doesn't quite work, at least in terms of what Railpix is all about. But that of course is a huge judgement call. And reasonable folks could disagree, and probably will.

I was a bit surprised by the comment about noise....I don't see that. The lack of sharpness and the blur in my opinion add to the mood, but it is more a "graphics" image than a "train picture". On the other hand one could argue it is more of a "train picture" than some of the streaky time exposures that do occasionally get selected....especially the ones of gates going up and down.

A different screener, or the same screener on a different day might have accepted it. That's the nature of "art".

Do you live near here? Would it be possible to go and try it again?

Actually, I don't think RP takes a whole lot of "art" in the sense of abstracts or non-representational stuff. This baggage cart swoosh, although problematic in various ways for my tastes, is quite creative, for example with the swooshes framing the people. I'm sure the right audience would find it quite interesting - whether successful or not I have no idea, because I'm not myself a member of that audience! - but RP is not that audience. RP leans toward the representational. It doesn't do transfigurations, non-natural color mutations, etc.

That's as far as it goes, around here! And I put the long-exposure night stuff into a category of representational.

As an alternative, didn't spend a whole lot of time looking, but try these
