Default My eyes are old like me...

I am waiting for a cataract operation but still, can someone point out the clutter for me please?

This is a difficult image, Dave. YES, there are a fair number of things obscuring the train. These include terrain and even the locomotive plume. But that's not the real problem. The problem is the complex mess of sharp contrasts (black earth, white snow), the lack of bright color, and that you have a white plume against a mostly snow-covered background. The train is lost in the mess. It is camouflaged to the point where it does not stand out well. The viewers eyes have to "dig" it out of the background. It's not a great scene for that reason.

You could mess with Nik filters, such as Tonal Contrast, to see if they would better separate the train from the background, but I'm not hopeful.
