Amtrak 1573, a weekend service train traveling from San Diego to Los Angeles, crosses the Santa Ana River and, in the process, crosses from the city of Orange into Anaheim. The train is slowing for the station stop at the Anaheim Regional Transportation Intermodal Center, which is a convoluted mouthful created just to get the acronyn ARTIC. A former F40PH, rebuilt into a Non Powered Control Unit (NPCU) and painted to commemorate America's military veterans (AMTK 90208), leads this train, with Siemens SC-44 2111 shoving on the rear. Back in the 1970s, this area was all orange groves.
Stretching from San Luis Obispo to San Diego, the Surf Line has become Amtrak's second busiest route. See the Pacific Surfliner and San Diegan in action along with trains from predecessors Santa Fe and Southern Pacific.
