Built by EMD in October 1995, Illinois Central SD70 1009 was delivered in the IC's black "Death Star" paint scheme. When Canadian National Railway purchased the IC in 1998, the roster began receiving CN colors as they were deemed in need of repainting. They continue to retain their IC reporting marks, however. IC 1009 was found in CN's Woodcrest Shops in Homewood, Illinois, on September 30, 2018. Woodcrest is a former IC facility, so 1009 was essentially still on "home rails." Photographed on railroad property with permission and full Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
