Southern California’s fair weather allowed the Southern Pacific Railroad to perform some repairs outdoors on the whisker tracks around the turntable at LA’s Taylor Yard. On a typically overcast March afternoon, SP Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton S-12 switcher was blue-flagged as it was undergoing repairs while situated between an EMD GP35 and a GE U25B. SP’s BLW and BLH switchers featured distinctive large signal light housings on each end. SP 2154 was built by Baldwin Locomotive Works successor BLH as SP 1547 in October 1953.
