Passing through Guangzhou, China, is one of the country's first high-speed trains - a CRH1A electric multiple unit (EMU) trainset. The CRH1 EMU, also known as Hexie (meaning "Harmony"), is a high-speed train operated by China Railway and built by a joint venture between Bombardier Transportation and Sifang at Bombardier Sifang Power Transportation factory in Qingdao, Shandong Province, People's Republic of China. Unlike most of the high-speed lines, the railway this train is operating upon is shared by slower locomotive-pulled passenger trains and freight trains, too. CRH1A (and CRH1B) trains are based on Bombardier's Regina family. The train was designed by Sifang and Bombardier jointly in Västerås, Sweden and originally named C2008. High-speed rail technology advanced quickly enough that these trains were bumped to this lower status in less than ten years, as most CRH1 trains were allocated to Guangshen Railway to replace all locomotive-hauled trains between Guangzhou and Shenzhen in Guangdong province. Some are also used on the line Shanghai – Nanjing. (Yuexiu, Baiyun, Guangzhou, China – October 25, 2018)
