Remarks & Notes
One of Metro-North Commuter Railroad's 40th Anniversary commemorative locomotives, dual-mode P32AC-DM 217, painted to honor predecessor Penn Central's colorful paint applied to the old FL9 locomotives. (PC, of course, was known for its drab black paint jobs on locomotives, so the brightly painted FL9s were railfan favorites when they appeared.) MNCW train 622, heading for its final stop at Grand Central Terminal in Manhattan, originated at Mount Kisco, on the carrier's Harlem Line. As this seven-car train departs the Harlem-125 Street station, just ahead (a bit beyond the two yellow overhead cranes performing some heavy-duty maintenance), this railroad dives below ground and this dual-mode locomotive will switch from diesel to third-rail electric for the roughly four-mile (6 km) remainder of the journey.
