Santa Fe SD40-2 5051 and Dash 9-44CW 691 lead Burlington Northern Santa Fe train H-BARI4-06 (Barstow CA to Richmond CA) across the diamonds at Stockton, California, on March 8th, 1997. Stockton Tower still stands guard at this BNSF-UP crossing, although it would fall victim to progress (and the ability of dispatchers in Fort Worth TX to handle this crossing) and BNSF closed the tower on January 12th, 1999. The structure, built by the Santa Fe in 1943, was razed on May 27th, 1999. Santa Fe 5051 and 691 were in helper service over the Tehachapi Mountains on the previous day.
