In 1983, Conrail spun off its ex-CNJ trackage from Packerton Junction through Jim Thorpe, and west to Haucks. The new owners of the trackage, Carbon and Schuylkill counties, awarded the operational contract to the Panther Valley Railroad, who ran freight service on the line with an ex-CR U30B. This change of ownership also opened the door for George Hart to run his ex-CP ten-wheeler on the county-owned route. Here one of the first excursions passes a Panther Valley crew at Nesquehoning.
