"Landlocked at Defco"
Defco Industrial Park's GE 25-ton locomotive sits tucked away towards the end of track, behind one of the many industrial buildings it was set to serve. Defco Industrial Park is located in North Haven, Connecticut just off of Amtrak's Springfield (MRS) Line. The 25-ton locomotive was originally built by General Electric in 1951 for Stone & Webster Engineering (Western Mass Electric Co.) In West Springfield, Massachusetts. It was purchased from them by Highland Rail Services some time later and moved to Defco where it was to service several businesses within the park that have tracks for rail service. The plan never took flight and Amtrak removed the switch, servering the park's connection to the national rail network. The locomotive has sat with an unknown fate ever since.
